A thousand year old tradition that is renewed every year. For centuries, thousands of people gather in Piazza Buondelmonti.
Over time, the San Luca all'Impruneta fair has become an established date on the folklore calendar. It was created as a livestock exhibition for people living in the entire region.
It is enough to see the famous engraving from 1620 by Jacques Callot - a copy in large format can be found at the entry to the central library - to understand the true origins of the San Luca fair. The fair takes its name from the patron of the city, San Luca, and always takes place during the week that falls on the 18th of October, an anniversary of the saint.
This year, the fair, organized by the town administration in collaboration with the association Fiera di San Luca, the municipal tourist board, and the merchants in the area, will take place from Sunday the 12th to Sunday the 19th of October.
Every day there will be exhibitions, such as the photographic exhibit at Imprenueta, which was once organized by the Società Corale in via Vittorio Veneto 29(Tel: 055-2011613), the market in the piazza with more than one hundred stalls of every kind, and the sale of typical products including olive oil and terracotta from Impreunetta.
To not forget the peasant origins of the event, from the 14th of October starting at 9, there will be livestock and courtyard animals. During the afternoon, there will be a poetry event with singing in eighth rhyme. The Palio di San Luca is not to be missed. It will take place on the 16th of October at 14.30 and again in the evening.
