Lucca film festival 2008, magic on film

This is the fourth year of the Lucca Film Festival which will take place from the 10th to the 18th of October at the Teatro San Girolamo and the Cinema Centrale in the centre of Lucca.

The festival will take place over 9 days and will include meetings, seminars and debates with important international guests. The public will be able to visit the exhibitions put up for the Festival and to attend rare showings.

This year, homage will be paid to Pierre Clementi, the great French actor and the director of many visionary films. Clementi's full length films will be previewed in Lucca before some of the artist's old friends including Jean-Pierre Kalfon and Franco Brocani.

Given its proximity to the native city of the composer, Lucca will remember
on the 150th anniversary of his birth. The anniversary will be honored with 'a creative act' of untold artistic value called Twenty Puccini. Twenty videos that have Puccini as their theme or are inspired by him and were created by, amongst others, Tsai Ming Liang, Jonas Mekas, Michael Snow and Tonino De Bernardi, will be presented for the first time at the Festival.

Finally, a retrospective will be dedicated to Shane Meadows, one of the most promising directors of the new English cinema who has been awarded multiple prizes at an international level, even if he is almost unknown to the Italian public.
His films include: Twenty-four Seven (1997), presented in Venice in the British Renaissance category was awarded the Fipresci prize, Once Upon a Time in England (2202), Dead Man's Shoes (2004) and the new This Is England (2006), a film with a strong emotional impact about Skinheads during the 1980's.
