A fascinating journey through intact countryside, past farms and ancient villages, and between steep climbs and treed streets accompanied by the autumnal breeze.
All of this is Chianti’s eco-marathon, which takes place on the 19th of October in the region of Castelnuovo Berardenga. The second edition of the eco-marathon is part of the Italian eco-marathon circuit and it is the only event of its kind in Tuscany.
The competition proposes a journey of 42,195 km and brings together the passion for marathons with a passion for the area’s cultural, natural and human resources. For those who love to walk, there is an alternative to the marathon. There will be a 10km eco-walk through the Sienese low hills. Those signed up to both can participate, for free, in a series of activities that include guided tours of castles and wine cellars in the area.
The event is open to people who are at least 18 years of age, and to those who have a Uisp card, are recognized by Coni, and have a medical sports certificate. Participants do not need to belong to a sport’s association. The Chianti eco-marathon is part of the Italian eco-marathon circuit. The Sahara marathon, the Marsi eco-marathon the Madonie eco-marathon, the Ventasso eco-marathon, and the Cimbri del Consiglio eco-marathon are also part of this circuit.
The Chianti eco-marathon is promoted by the multi-sport association La Bulletta and by the Chianti eco-marathon committee, with the support of: the Comune di Castelnuovo Berardenga, the Province of Siena, the Light Athletic League Uisp Siena, the Tuscan and Pogas Region, youth politics and athletic activities.
